6 Steps to Generating New Ideas

Everyone has the ability to come up with good ideas and solve problems.  Here are 6 suggested steps for generating new ideas:

1. Define the problem

What is the problem? What kind of ideas do you need to solve the problem?

2. Gather the facts

Round up all the information regarding the problem. Include past unsuccessful attempts to solve the issue. Sometimes ideas that did not work previously might succeed at another time with a change of circumstances.

3. Name the obvious solutions

These are the predictable ideas that comes to mind when we look at the problem first-hand.

4. Consider the wild suggestions

These are ideas that appear to be ridiculous but open up the frame to push past conventional solutions.

5. Think deeply about the problem

Immerse yourself into thinking about the problem until you have reached a state of frustration.

6. Walk away

Put the problem out of your mind. You may think better and get a fresh new perspective on the issue after declaring a hiatus. At this point of time, you may get an “a-ha” moment which may be the answer to your problem.
